Armed police were deployed after two men allegedly fled the scene of a crash between a van and a car in Maghull, Merseyside, throwing a bag into a nearby garden as they did so. The bag was later found to contain a shotgun. As a police helicopter joined officers in the search for the suspects, a road was closed off and children at a nearby school had to leave by a different route. A 20-year-old man from Kirkby was later arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and failing to stop following a road traffic collision. The search for the second man continued.
